Infertility is a disease or condition of the reproductive system often diagnosed after a couple has had one year of unprotected, well-timed intercourse ,we can consider that she has been suffering from infertilty and she needs to consult infertility specialist.
IUI, or Intra Uterine Insemination, is a procedure on which sperm placed directly into a woman's uterus. During normal intercourse, only a small percentage of a man's sperm will make it pass the woman's cervix and enter the uterus to fertilize the woman's egg. Most of the sperm that is ejaculated during intercourse remains in the vagina. A small percentage of the ejaculated sperm will travel, with the help of the woman's cervical mucus, through the vagina and into the cervical canal where it is released gradually into the uterus. But, this amount is only a fraction of the total amount of sperm ejaculated. IUI increases a couple's chance of conceiving because it removes any obstacles that could keep sperm from entering the uterus, such as hostile cervical mucus or antisperm antibodies. It also places the sperm closer to the egg. Moreover, it improves the odds of conception by simply putting more sperm into the uterus than would be possible through normal intercourse. Logically, the more sperm that is in the uterus during ovulation, the higher the chances are of conceiving.
IVF is an acronym for In Vitro Fertilization. Simply IVF is adding a man's sperm to his female partner eggs in the laboratory to produce embryos. In vitro fertilization is an option for many couples who cannot conceive through conventional therapies. These embryos are put back into the female partner's uterus (womb) after 3 to 5 days of being in the incubator, hopefully they will then grow into a baby. The reasons for IVF done include - poor sperm quality and/or quantity, obstructions between the egg and sperm, ovulation problems, and sperm-egg interaction problems. These problems can prevent couples having a baby naturally, and IVF helps to solve this.
Generally an IVF cycle takes about 2-3 weeks. You are only required to come to the clinic on some of these days and appointments will be provided to minimize the time you will spend for cycle monitoring (blood test and ultrasound). However, we recommend you,to be assessed at our centre near the end of your cycle. It would be necessary to be off from the work on the day of the retrieval.
IVF is as expensive as other major surgical procedures but not more than that.Generally cost of IVF cycle mostly due to drugs used for ovarian stimulation.IVF is not a painfull procedure, it is patient friendly procedure done under anesthesia only.
No need of admission.Egg retrieval is 30 mts. procedure done under anesthesia & after anesthesia effect patient can go home. This takes 2-3 hours after procedure. After 2-3 days again pt.have to attend the clinic for embryo transfer. It also takes same time and discharge protocols are also same to all and it needs 3-5 visits in one cycle.
Ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS): Its due to response of ovaries to the hormone given to the patient. Ovaries become swollen, fluid accumulates in the peritoneal and plural spaces ,severe pain abdomen ,respiratory distress will be seen in these cases .urine output becomes low.
Ectopic pregnancy: It is the pregnancy occurs in other than uterus. Ex: fallopian tubes, ovaries or in the peritoneal cavity. Natural pregnancy also faces this problem but less common.
Multiple pregnancy: Up to twin pregnancy it is not a problem ,but more than that, like triplets qudriplets may cause preterm deliveries and IUDs. Remaining side effects are minor.
If the ovaries are still fertile and are not responding to fertility drugs, you can go for treatment. But fertility chances decreases when the patient age increases. More over some genetic problems in the babies and abortions are more common. But we can detect some fetal anomalies before delivery by prenatal tests.
Surrogacy is a treatment by which the gametes of the genetic couple are used to produce embryos and are transferred to a women who acts as a host of these embryos. If the pregnancy is impossible to the women or if the pregnancy is risk to the mothers health, they may go for surrogacy.
Traditional surrogacy Altruistic surrogacy, gestational surrogacy, and commercial surrogacy is more common in India. In this agreement made to pay the amount to the gestational carrier to carry the pregnancy and giving birth to the child.
It is a procedure done to restore the flow in the duct which has been blocked naturally or by tubectomy in females and vasectomy in males. This procedure done under anesthesia.Comparatively recanalisation success rate is less.
